5 Smart Home Trends

Smart home technology has thankfully not attempted to replace anyone's mother, it has come a long way. New home technologies have really taken off, with devices being introduced for every room in the house. People are buying homes today with an eye toward the existing smart home tech that is already included, rather than saving smart trends for the most expensive homes or saving them for an upgrade year’s road. These are some of the most important smart home tech trends right now.

1)    Integration:

One of the top smart home trends is the increasing integration of smart home technology. As previously stated, it has almost become a necessity rather than a luxury, and with increased expectations has come increased connectedness and ease of use.

From the standpoint of pure integration, more smart home devices are beginning to communicate with one another. For example, multiple rooms in your home can be outfitted with Google Home speakers that can work as a group(s) rather than as individual units.

2)    The Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial intelligence is getting better at understanding commands and responding in more relevant ways. Residents of smart homes can use AI to play music, update their to-do list, turn lights on and off, and much more.

The internet of things (essentially connecting all of the world's things to the internet) is still a more complicated process to grasp, but progress in the smart home world in terms of IoT will have a lot of implications for making life easier, particularly in the smart kitchen and smart bathroom space.

3)    Home Office:

With the widespread shift to working from home, smart home innovations, particularly for home offices, drew attention last year and continue to evolve as companies extend office closures and even transition to hybrid or permanent work from home policies. The potential for growth in this space is just beginning, with technology ranging from noise-canceling windows to drown out the neighbor mowing their lawn to AI filters to hide the messy living room when you jump on a video call with your boss.

4)    High-Speed Internet Access:

A high-speed internet connection via mesh Wi-Fi is one of the prerequisites for future smart homes. Slow connections and dead zones caused by walking away from your router will be a thing of the past once mesh Wi-Fi connects your main router directly to the well. The rest of the smart home devices you install will have a high-speed connection throughout the house.

5)    High-Tech Security:

Smart home security systems are being developed to protect the outside in order to ensure the safety of all of the smart home tech inside. These devices will become more interconnected, allowing you to monitor and control your home from anywhere.
